Finding the right footwear has long been known to help back pain.  If your feet are properly aligned, then the rest of your body should be able to follow suit.  Think of shoes as the foundation that your body sits on, if it’s too loose the rest will be unsteady and that may lead to back pain.  Finding the correct shoes however, may be able to help you have a good, solid foundation.

  • When looking for shoes, make sure that your foot doesn’t move around too much in them and that they have a proper fit.
  • You want to find some that fully support your foot, and are comfortable.
  • If you work out, you may want to think about replacing those shoes every three months or so due to the normal wear and tear.
  • Make sure that they aren’t too heavy.
  • If you have high arches, look for shoes with more cushioning or padding in them.

Generally, if your shoes twist in the middle area they aren’t supportive.  They should fit comfortable and snug against your foot.  To test padding, press down with your finger, and judge the give in the shoe.

While supportive shoes may cost a little more than the not supportive kinds, you can’t put a price on health and wellness.  After all, you are worth it, and your comfort and staying well are very important. Finding proper support for your feet may help the rest of you stay adjusted as well.
